Make an appointment

A visit is not always necessary. We can often give you a good indication of what you have by phone, or from a few photos.

Your photos go to info@schulman.nl. You can call us on weekdays between 10:00 and 18:00.

Free and without obligation. You are not committed to anything.

You may find the answer here already

With these coins the year decides whether there is more to it than the metal value. Our knowledge base lists them year by year, so you often know within a minute. That saves you the wait.

Is your coin not among these, or are you not certain? Do send us photos. We would rather look once too often than too little.

What you will hear from us

Not every coin calls for a visit. What you have decides the route, so you only come to Amsterdam when it genuinely adds something.

Route 1

Gold or silver without rarity

Then the metal value counts. We buy those coins ourselves, and we usually arrange that by email or phone. You do not need to travel for it.

Route 2

Rare or sought after

Then your piece fetches more at auction than in a direct sale. We are glad to invite you to the Jan Luijkenstraat, so a specialist can take his time with it.

Route 3

Outside our field

Modern circulation coinage and leftover holiday money are not something we handle. We say so straight away, and we are happy to point you in the right direction.

How to photograph your coins

A phone works fine for this. The sharper the image, the more we can tell straight away.

Step 1

Front and back

A photo of both sides. The reverse often tells us more than the obverse.

Step 2

Straight from above

Hold the phone flat above the coin, not at an angle. That keeps the edge lettering readable.

Step 3

Daylight, no flash

By a window works best. A flash puts a white blot in the middle of the coin.

Please do not clean the coins before photographing them. A cleaned coin is almost always worth less than the same coin with its old surface.

What you can expect

Schulman has been valuing and auctioning coins since 1880. During your appointment one of our numismatists looks at them with you personally.

Call us on weekdays between 10:00 and 18:00. Telling us is sometimes quicker than photographing, certainly with a whole collection.
