Selling coins

You sell coins with a specialist who has been supervising, valuing and documenting collections since 1880. Schulman is a trusted address for Dutch and colonial coins, gold and silver pieces and complete collections. We combine personal guidance with international auctioneering and transparent valuation.

Registering your coins is simple and discreet. You can deliver your coins in person to our gallery in Amsterdam, or contact us to discuss a suitable solution together. Transfer is also possible during coin exchanges or via an insured shipment by courier. In some cases, we make home visits, for example with a complete coin collection
or an estate. Our experts will carefully review your coins and recommend whether selling by auction or direct sale is the most appropriate. Once received, your coins will be professionally described, photographed and valued. You will receive an overview of catalogue numbers so that you can follow your documents. The auction catalogue appears online and in print approximately six weeks before the auction and is distributed worldwide to interested parties. On the auction day, you can bid in the hall, online or via our app. The proceeds will be paid out to you eight weeks after the end of the auction.
Gold coins for collectors and precious metal investors

How do I sell my collection?

At Schulman, we offer various solutions to sell your collection. In addition to sales through our auctions, we can also offer direct sales. We then make an offer based on current market prices and pay immediately.

What is the difference between bullion and numismatics?

Bullion is gold whose value is determined by the weight and purity of the metal. Think of gold bars or modern investment coins such as the Krugerrand or Maple Leaf.

What's the best way to sell my coin collection?

Safety and fair auctions are the top priority at Schulman. That's why we require credit card authentication upon registration to participate in live bids. This prevents identity fraud and so-called “ghost bids”. The credit card you register does not have to be used for payment, it can be made by invoice.

Does Schulman also sell banknotes?

Yes, of course. Every year, we organize at least one auction that is entirely dedicated to banknotes.

Why do you ask for a credit card when you register for online bidding?

To ensure the reliability of our auctions, we require credit card verification upon registration. This helps prevent identity fraud and unwanted bidding behavior. The credit card provided is used for verification purposes only.

Does Schulman also auction banknotes?

Only coins with numismatic value. Schulman specialises in Dutch, Benelux and colonial coins, and also assesses world coins on rarity, period and precious metal content. We do not accept foreign small change from recent decades in base metal, because there is no collector market for it.
