Selling paper money

Selling paper money requires knowledge and care. Schulman b.v. offers both separate banknotes and complete collections. As with coins, quality, rarity and origin play a major role in valuation. That's why our specialists take the time for an accurate valuation, where every detail counts, from print quality to the smallest crease. Your tickets can then be sold immediately at a competitive price or included in our international auction catalogue. Together, we will determine which form of sales best suits your situation.

The importance of paper money grading

Banknotes are highly sensitive to wear, discoloration and damage. The condition of a ticket is therefore crucial. Professional grading by an internationally recognized institution such as PMG (Paper Money Guaranty) gives your notes an objective assessment according to strict international standards. A graded ticket offers buyers extra confidence, thanks to its sealed holder and unique certificate, and often achieves higher sales revenue, especially at international auctions. In addition, the holder provides long-term protection for the ticket. Our experts will be happy to advise you which tickets are eligible for grading and, if you wish, will take care of the entire process for you.

Banknote quality standards

The value of paper money worldwide is partly determined by official quality grades, usually expressed on a scale of 1 to 70. A note in Gem Uncirculated quality (66—70) is in perfect condition with no creases or signs of wear, while a note is in Choice Uncirculated (63—65) shows only slight imperfections. Bee About Uncirculated (50—58), there is at most a single fold, while a note is in Extremely Fine (40—45) light has circulated but still has sharp details. Very Fine (20—35) shows multiple folds without serious damage, and notes in lower grades such as Fine whether Good show obvious wear, stains or cracks. These grades are leading for collectors and investors and often make the difference between a reasonable return and a top result.
